Early on Tuesday, the former president declared that special counsel Jack Smith, whose independent investigation of the former president resulted in two criminal indictments against him, had received a “high level SPANKING!” from the Supreme Court for the decision to grant him presidential immunity.
In a 6-3 decision on Monday, the Supreme Court held that presidents are “at least presumptively immune” from prosecution for any other official acts and enjoy complete immunity for conduct that are within the purview of their office.
“A really bad day for Deranged Jack Smith, the wacko prosecutor used for Crooked Joe Biden’s attack on his Political Opponent. Today, as in the past, the Supreme Court gave the Deranged One a high level SPANKING!” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
The presumed GOP nominee has won a major battle with this ruling, as it is now doubtful that his federal election subversion case would go to trial before November’s election.
In order to ascertain whether the former president’s attempts to maintain his position of authority following his defeat in the 2020 election are justified, the matter will return to district court.
The former president advised DOJ representatives to abandon their investigation on him.
Trump hailed the result as a “huge win” for democracy shortly after the high court issued its ruling.
When Trump paid his then-fixer, Michael Cohen, back for hush money paid to an adult film star who claimed to have had an affair with him, he was found guilty in late May of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records with the intent to unlawfully influence the 2016 presidential election.
This occurred in an unrelated criminal case in New York. The former president has promised to fight the conviction and refuted the accusation.
