Megyn Kelly said Monday that she believes Taylor Swift is “empty inside,” telling Piers Morgan she feels sorry for both the pop superstar and her new husband, Travis Kelce, following the couple’s July 3 wedding at Madison Square Garden.
During the discussion, Morgan described the ceremony as “a bit OTT (over the top),” prompting Kelly to offer a deeply personal assessment of Swift’s life and career.
“I may shock you, but I feel sorry for Taylor Swift,” Kelly said. “I really think she’s empty inside.”
Kelly argued that individuals who achieve fame at a young age often spend years searching for something they never received earlier in life.
“I think most people who seek fame at a very early age, like in their teens, are chasing after some sort of fullness that wasn’t provided by their family of origin for whatever reason, and it never comes,” she said.
According to Kelly, celebrity status, wealth and public admiration cannot provide lasting fulfillment.
Instead, she suggested that many famous people become trapped in what she described as “a lifelong pursuit,” adding that “fame and money, adoration from strangers, does not fill that void. Only God and your immediate loved ones can.”
Kelly also questioned the scale of Swift and Kelce’s wedding celebration, particularly the reported size of the guest list.
“Who has a thousand-person wedding?” she asked.
She acknowledged that some large families could reach that number of attendees, joking that “if you’re Italian and you’ve got non-stop relatives, you would get to a thousand pretty quickly,” before adding that Swift does not fit that description.
Kelly also expressed skepticism about the wide range of celebrities reportedly in attendance.
Referring to guests such as Oprah and Steven Spielberg, Kelly said she did not believe such an expansive celebrity turnout reflected genuine personal relationships.
She said she could understand why Swift might have close ties to major figures in the music industry, particularly within country music, but questioned how other celebrities became involved in the event.
Kelly specifically pointed to actor Adam Sandler serving as the wedding’s officiant, saying she found the connection unusual.
“Oh, we’re told by the papers that Travis and he were in Happy Gilmore 2 together,” Kelly said before noting that the film was made in 2025.
Morgan agreed with Kelly’s observations, saying celebrity-filled weddings can seem unusual when they are supposed to be private occasions.
“It’s a bit weird, these kind of weddings, where any celebrity you can think of rocks up for your most private nuptials,” Morgan said.
Kelly responded by saying the situation made her uncomfortable.
“It’s so awkward, it makes me feel so uncomfortable,” she said.
Despite Kelly’s doubts about some of Swift’s celebrity relationships, Spielberg recently praised the singer while inducting her into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Speaking at the ceremony last month, Spielberg called Swift “the youngest female ever to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame” and described her as “a singular artist and a genuine phenomenon.”
He also praised her accomplishments as a songwriter, singer and storyteller, saying her cultural impact rivals that of legendary composers and singer-songwriters from previous generations.
