Former First Lady Michelle Obama will reportedly not attend President-elect Trump’s inauguration next week, following her absence at former President Jimmy Carter’s burial in Washington, D.C., last week, which garnered attention.

The Obama family announced that former President Obama will attend the inauguration.

“Former President Barack Obama is confirmed to attend the 60th Inaugural Ceremonies. Former First Lady Michelle Obama will not attend the upcoming inauguration,” a statement from the Obama’s read.

Former President Obama conversed amicably with Trump at the Carter burial last week, displaying laughter and smiles in response to Trump’s remarks before to the rituals at the National Cathedral.

Former President George W. Bush briefly passed past Obama and tapped him on the abdomen but seemingly did not recognize Trump.

The incident gained widespread attention and prompted discussion regarding Trump’s status among the select group of living former presidents.

Michelle Obama’s absence was significant considering her previous harsh critiques of Trump, who followed her husband in the presidency.

She has expressed her ire against Trump, who for years propagated a conspiracy theory asserting that Barack Obama was not born in the U.S. and, hence, was ineligible for the presidency.

Her absence during Carter’s funeral was conspicuous due to the attendance of other former presidents and first ladies.

The Obamas stated that the former first lady was unable to attend the Carter event because of a schedule difficulty.
