Following her recent arrest, Orlando commissioner Regina Hill has been suspended by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis through an executive order issued on Monday.
Governor DeSantis’ choice to suspend the District 5 commissioner, who is currently facing controversy, aligns with the laws of Florida.
These laws grant the governor the authority to remove an elected official from their position if they are indicted by a grand jury.
Last week, Hill was indicted by a grand jury on charges pertaining to the exploitation and fraud of elderly individuals.
Hill, as always, made an appearance at the Orlando City Council’s board workshop prior to their regularly scheduled board meeting.
After the meeting concluded, she discreetly left the commission chamber through a rear exit.
Just moments before the board meeting was set to begin, DeSantis dropped a bombshell: her suspension. Hill did not return after the meeting began.
At the commencement of the meeting, Dyer broached the topic of the suspension.
In a recent announcement, it was revealed that the city is planning to hold a special election in May to fill the vacant District 5 seat.
