Elon Musk is reportedly preparing to once again invest heavily in Republican campaigns ahead of this year’s midterm elections, with plans to revive the political organization that played a major role in President Donald Trump’s successful 2024 campaign.
According to a Wednesday report from Axios, Musk is bringing back America PAC, the political action committee that raised more than $260 million in support of Trump’s election effort in 2024.
That fundraising effort made Musk the largest individual political donor in a single election cycle in U.S. history.
While the exact amount Musk plans to spend during the midterms has not been disclosed, the report said the total is expected to be substantial.
America PAC is expected to concentrate its efforts on voter turnout operations rather than television advertising. The organization’s strategy will reportedly include door-knocking campaigns, digital advertising, and direct mail designed to encourage conservative voters to cast ballots, particularly those who are less likely to participate in elections held outside of presidential years.
By focusing on grassroots turnout efforts, the PAC is expected to allow other Republican-aligned organizations to devote more of their resources to television advertising.
The operation will be led by Chris Young, who serves as Musk’s top political adviser.
America PAC spokesperson Andrew Romeo praised the Republican campaign apparatus while discussing the group’s renewed involvement in the upcoming elections.
“The president’s political team and the rest of the GOP apparatus have built a top-notch operation that will put Republicans in a strong position to buck history and retain control of Congress this fall, and we’re excited to again be part of the team,” Romeo told Axios.
Republicans enter the midterm election cycle facing several political challenges. President Trump has encountered lower polling amid concerns over high costs, the ongoing Iran war, and the emergence of Democratic socialist candidates in multiple races. Those factors have fueled speculation that Republicans could struggle to maintain their narrow congressional majority.
Supporters of the GOP effort say Musk’s return provides an important advantage.
“America PAC was an essential partner for our historic GOTV operation in 2024, and their return for 2026 is a huge boost for Republicans across the country,” Trump adviser James Blair told Axios.
Following the 2024 election, Musk spent several months working with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), where he focused on efforts to reduce government spending.
According to the report, that experience ultimately strained Musk’s relationship with Trump and the administration over disagreements involving federal spending. In the months that followed, Musk publicly floated the possibility of creating a third political party.
Despite that period of tension, Musk now appears to have shifted back toward supporting Republican efforts. Axios reported that he is coordinating with other political organizations as Republicans prepare for the midterm elections.
“We will again outsmart our opponents and ruthlessly execute our mission for the GOP between now and Election Day,” Blair said.
Musk recently reflected on his political involvement during an interview with The Economist, acknowledging that he believed he had become too immersed in politics.
“I think I got a little too involved in politics,” Musk said. “I got carried away, frankly.”
He also defended his work with DOGE, saying, “We need to sort of take a close look at spending and make sure that money is being spent in sensible ways and that it is not wasted or spent on fraudulent activities. And I got a lot of flak from this.”
