Actor Mel Gibson has now reportedly publicly criticized California Governor Gavin Newsom, advocating for his recall due to what Gibson describes as “gross mismanagement” of the state’s affairs, particularly concerning the devastating wildfires in Southern California.

Gibson, who lost his Malibu home in the recent Palisades and Eaton fires, expressed his frustrations during a press conference in Los Angeles.

Addressing the crowd, the 69-year-old actor emphasized the high taxes Californians pay, stating that residents deserve better management in return.

He questioned whether the failures were due to incompetence or negligence and criticized both Governor Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass for their handling of the crisis.

“Governor Newsom and Karen Bass let us all down. Now for that kind of money, we deserve much more and much better, and there is absolutely no adequate excuse the governor or mayor can make for this gross mismanagement and failure to preemptively deal with what they knew was coming.” Gibson said.

“Was it incompetence? Was it indifference, complacency, carelessness? Was it negligence? Absolutely,” he continued.

“Newsom … has brought us nothing but rampant crime, acute homelessness, horrendous inflation.” he concluded.

Gibson also highlighted the decline of California’s film industry, once considered the epicenter of filmmaking.

He noted that many residents who lost their homes are unable to claim insurance payouts because carriers have withdrawn from the state, citing its unpreparedness and limited resources to address inevitable fires.

Gibson questioned how insurance companies could foresee these challenges while elected officials appeared unaware.

Despite his criticisms of leadership, Gibson praised the efforts of firefighters, acknowledging their dedication and expressing gratitude for their hard work during the disasters.

The event was organized by Saving California, a group focused on recalling Governor Newsom and addressing the state’s economic challenges.

Reflecting on the loss of his home, Gibson recounted that he was in Austin, Texas, recording an episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast when the fires occurred.

Upon returning, he discovered his home of over a decade had been destroyed, describing the experience as “devastating.”

Gibson’s public statements add to the growing discourse surrounding California’s leadership and disaster management, as residents and public figures alike call for accountability and change.
