The nomination of Jared Isaacman, a close ally of Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX, to be the next Administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) was revealed by President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday.
According to a statement released by Trump, the millionaire, who is 41 years old, is a successful business leader, philanthropist, pilot, and astronaut.
“Jared will drive NASA’s mission of discovery and inspiration, paving the way for groundbreaking achievements in Space science, technology, and exploration. Jared’s passion for Space, astronaut experience, and dedication to pushing the boundaries of exploration, unlocking the mysteries of the universe, and advancing the new Space economy, make him ideally suited to lead NASA into a bold new Era.” Trump wrote.
“Jared has demonstrated exceptional leadership, building a trailblazing global financial technology company. He also co-founded and served as CEO of Draken International, a defense aerospace company, for over a decade, supporting the U.S. Department of Defense, and our Allies.” he added.
It has been 25 years since Isaacman established Shift4, a payment processing company that he currently serves as the CEO of.
Isaacman may decide to change the existing mission set of NASA, which is to return to the moon, to the audacious vision that Musk has presented, which is to travel to Mars.
Isaacman made his debut in the space sector at the beginning of 2021 when he made the announcement that he was financing a private voyage to space using a SpaceX Crew Dragon spaceship.
