On Tuesday morning, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis addressed a news conference at a college in the state, during which he deliberated on the future financing of successful nursing education initiatives in the state in Florida.
Manny Diaz Jr., Commissioner of the Florida Department of Education, and Ray Rodrigues, Chancellor of the State University System of Florida, were present.
DeSantis emphasized Florida’s advancements in fortifying its nursing workforce by referencing the Prepping Institutions, Programs, Employers, and Learners through Incentives for Nursing Education (PIPELINE) Fund and the Linking Industry to Nursing Education (LINE) Fund at the conference, which was conducted at Daytona State College in Daytona Beach.
“Florida is addressing the nationwide demand for qualified nurses through smart investments in workforce and nursing education. These two programs are producing results, which is why I will support their full renewal in the upcoming fiscal year.” DeSantis said.
DeSantis recently allocated $130 million to the PIPELINE and LINE initiatives in the Focus on Florida’s Future Budget as part of his objective to establish Florida as the premier state for workforce education by 2030.
DeSantis reported that 7,498 students completed a nursing program in the 2023-24 fiscal year, the highest number in three years.
