Following the assassination attempt against him over the weekend, Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.) stated on Monday that former President Trump has a “new sense of purpose” ahead in his presidential campaign.
Longtime Trump supporter Donalds claimed to have spoken with some senior team members of the former president, who stated he is in “good spirits.”
“I don’t want to speak for him, but knowing him, his mind getting back to business getting back to working hard for the American people. And the assassination attempt, which obviously would be chilling for anybody, what it has done for the president is, it has given him a new sense of purpose, focus and energy to move forward with this campaign and get back into the White House.” Donalds said in a new CNN interview.
During Trump’s Saturday campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, gunfire was heard, leaving one attendee dead and the former president injured.
As of Sunday, the injuries to the other two attendees were stable.
The FBI has named the shooter as Bethel Park, Pennsylvania resident Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20,.
He was shot and killed by officials shortly after firing from a rooftop near the event venue.
In light of the shooting, Trump stated in a new interview that he is rewriting his speech slated to address unity at the convention.
In a prime-time speech on Sunday night, President Biden pleaded for a cooling-off period in politics in spite of his history of using incendiary language to target Trump and his supporters.
