On Wednesday, Republicans in Congress reportedly introduced a measure that is designed to eliminate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs throughout the federal bureaucracy that have been implemented by the Biden administration.
The objective of the 48-page bill is to “prevent racism in the Federal Government by ensuring equal protection of the law.”
It encompasses a variety of topics, including education, training, contractors, grants, advisory committees, and federal offices and personnel.
Rep. Michael Cloud (R-TX) introduced the House version of the “Dismantle DEI Act,” while Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH), who is a potential candidate to serve as former President Donald Trump’s running mate in this year’s election, introduced the Senate version.
In order to integrate DEI into the federal bureaucracy, President Joe Biden has signed numerous executive orders.
The Biden administration has employed employee associations based on ethnicity and sexuality to advocate for left-wing policies within the administrative state.
A previous Republican bill aimed to reduce the funding allocated to medical schools that implement DEI.
In a press release, Vance’s office stated that his more comprehensive measure would eliminate specific executive orders, terminate chief diversity officers, terminate critical race theory trainings, prohibit mandatory employee DEI pledges, and revoke DEI funding for federal agencies.
The bill would also prohibit federal grant recipients across numerous injustices from employing DEI policies, cease federal contracts to companies that have “prohibited DEI practices,” and crack down on DEI-supporting educational accreditation agencies.
The anti-DEI bill in the Democrat-controlled Senate is co-sponsored by Sens. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Bill Cassidy (R-LA), Kevin Cramer (R-ND), Eric Schmitt (R-MO), and Rick Scott (R-FL).
The Republican-controlled House has 15 co-sponsors of the legislation.
