Governor of Florida Ron DeSantis has stated that he would not permit the United States justice system to incarcerate former President Donald Trump if elected president.

Following the Colorado Supreme Court’s ruling to exclude Trump from the state’s 2024 presidential election ballot, he delivered his remarks.

The remarks were made subsequent to the Colorado Supreme Court’s announcement of its ruling that, under the 14th Amendment, barred the former president from running for office in Colorado.

The federal Supreme Court is likely to hear an appeal of the decision.

“The idea that we’re going to put an almost 80-year-old former president in prison – that’s not going to be good for this country,” DeSantis said.

The lawsuit filed in Colorado is merely one of numerous legal disputes that Trump encounters in his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024.

Challenges to the inclusion of Trump on primary and general election ballots have been addressed in numerous state courts, and the former president has been indicted in four criminal cases.

The governor of Florida stated that he considers Trump’s legal challenges to be an example of a politicized judicial system and the “weaponization” of federal agencies, both of which negatively impact less prominent Americans.

In 1974, former President Richard Nixon was granted a pardon by former President Gerald Ford.

DeSantis stated that while this was a controversial decision, it was essential for the nation to “move forward.”

“We got to start healing this country at some point. And I think the left, they are hell-bent on using the levers of power to go after people they don’t like and it’s got to stop. And I’m the only guy running that can conceivably put a stop to it. That’s just the reality.” DeSantis said.
