In a fresh blow to former President Trump, a major financial backer has now reportedly jumped ship and has now announced he plans on supporting Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for President.

Another billionaire Republican financier has abandoned Trump and is supporting Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis in the 2024 election instead.

The founder of Texas-based Point Bridge Capital, Hal Lambert, believes the GOP should support DeSantis, 44, rather than the 76-year-old former president.

“I’m in for DeSantis this time. I plan to do a lot to help DeSantis win,” he said in a statement to The New York Times.

Lambert claimed that Trump’s behavior at a recent CNN town hall left him with a negative impression.

“What voters who didn’t vote for Trump in 2020 are going to vote for him this time based on his performance? I don’t think anyone will,” he noted.

“We can’t talk about things from four years ago that can’t be changed. Trump is going to have a difficult time winning the general election. The election won’t be about Joe Biden’s bad record. It will be a referendum on Trump instead.” He continued.

Lambert said that DeSantis would provide a stronger contrast to President Joe Biden, who is 80 years old, on the debate stage.

Trump may have a net worth of $2.5 billion however he remains highly reliant on big donors and is loathe to spend his own money.

Thus, Lambert’s dramatic endorsement of DeSantis will likely be seen as a significant blow to Trump’s campaign and a major boost for DeSantis.
