Senator Marco Rubio has now reportedly indicated that the U.S. may “move on” from negotiations aimed at resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict if no progress is made within days.
Speaking in Paris after a meeting with officials from the U.S., Ukraine, and Europe, Rubio emphasized the need to determine quickly whether a resolution is feasible.
Rubio stated, “We need to figure out here now, within a matter of days, whether this is doable in the short term,” highlighting the pressing nature of the situation.
He refrained from discussing specific details of the framework for a potential deal, noting that public negotiations often lead to complications.
Instead, he expressed optimism about recent meetings, stating that both sides need to consider their positions before any further discussions.
The senator underscored the urgency by stating that the Biden administration has other significant issues demanding attention, indicating that Ukraine negotiations cannot go on indefinitely. “There are a lot of things going on in the world right now that we need to be focused on,” he added.
This statement comes after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed concerns about Russian narratives gaining traction in the U.S., suggesting that misinformation may influence American perceptions of the conflict in spite of their being no evidence to support this assertion.
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has suggested that Ukraine initiated the conflict with Russia.
With another meeting scheduled for next week in London, the pressure is on to achieve tangible results in the talks.
Rubio’s comments reflect a growing impatience among U.S. policymakers regarding the ongoing war and the need for decisive action. As the situation evolves, the focus remains on finding a viable path to peace.
