The Republican governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, has reportedly requested the establishment of a state-level liaison who will collaborate with the federal government in order to carry out President-elect Trump’s immigration policy.

Furthermore, the governor advocated for the maximum participation of state and local law enforcement in the enforcement of federal laws.

“We are going to be appointing a state immigration officer that will be dedicated to overseeing the coordination with federal authorities and Florida’s existing program,”  DeSantis said during a recent press conference.

He also expressed his belief that the federal government would “bless” state and local officials if they were given the authority to detain and deport those who were present in the state unlawfully because of their presence.

Additionally, DeSantis advocated for additional reforms to be implemented in the areas of education and voting, as well as the need that voter registration be accompanied by a declaration of U.S. citizenship and Florida residency.

According to the governor, he has been in communication with President Trump and his transition team regarding the plans that he has for the planned special session.

Additionally, DeSantis highlighted his intention for Florida to serve as a model for other states to follow in terms of following Trump’s immigration agenda.

The disclosure of the proposal comes after Trump and DeSantis met on Tuesday for a round of golf at the golf property owned by the president-elect in West Palm Beach.

At the beginning of this week, DeSantis expressed his desire for a special legislative session to be held on January 27.

The governor got some criticism from Republican leaders in the state legislature, despite the fact that Trump publicly complimented DeSantis for the move in a post that was published on Truth Social.

In a letter addressed to the state’s legislators, the Republican president of the state Senate, Ben Albritton, and the Republican speaker of the state House, Daniel Perez, referred to the action as “premature.”
