On Monday, President Joe Biden reportedly commuted the death sentences of 37 federal death row inmates, converting them to life in prison without parole.
This decision left only three inmates who were convicted of terrorism or hate-fueled mass murder unaffected.
The move comes as many far-left activists now believe that President-elect Donald Trump, who during his first term resumed federal executions after a nearly 20-year pause, would push for the executions to be carried out.
Biden’s move could be interpreted as an effort to appease his far-left wing before leaving ofice.
Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, who was responsible for the bombing that occurred at the Boston Marathon in 2013, Dylann Roof, who was convicted of killing nine Black congregants in a church in Charleston in 2015, and Robert Bowers, who was responsible for the shooting that occurred at a synagogue in Pittsburgh in 2018, are the only inmates who are not eligible for commutation.
The move comes just a few weeks after Vice President Joe Biden enacted the largest single-day act of clemency in modern history. He commuted the sentences of 1,500 individuals and granted 39 presidential pardons.
This action followed immediately after his controversial pardon of his son Hunter Biden, who was facing federal charges for gun possession and tax violations.
