As part of an effort to extend its victory to the nation’s military colleges, the organization that successfully challenged affirmative action in the majority of universities has filed a lawsuit against the Air Force Academy for its allegedly ultra-woke policies.
On Tuesday, Students for Fair Admissions (SFFA) filed a complaint against the school, saying that it violated the Fifth Amendment by utilizing race as a factor in its admissions process.
“Over the past few decades, the Air Force Academy and our other military academies have strayed from their former colorblind, merit-based admissions policies and now focus on race and ethnicity — factors that do not contribute to the qualifications of applicants,” the group behind the lawsuit claimed.
A federal judge in Maryland issued a ruling last week that rejected the challenge that the SFFA had made to the admissions policies of the Naval Academy.
The Supreme Court stated that military schools have a national security interest in having a diverse class when it issued its ruling in 2023 that universities may not use race as a factor in admissions decisions.
This initiative to sue the Air Force Academy, which is responsible for training cadets for both the Air Force and the Space Force, demonstrates the SFFA’s desire to broaden these efforts to include all military institutions, despite the fact that the SFFA has stated that it intends to appeal the judgment in question.
