The budget for military-supporting infrastructure in Florida, which includes many important organizations in Northwest Florida, has now reportedly been increased by $2.1 million thanks to the efforts of Governor Ron DeSantis.
The Defense Reinvestment Grant Program is the source of funding for this effort, which offers funds to assist infrastructure development and economic growth in towns that are inhabited by military personnel.
“Florida is committed to investing in our military’s capacity and in military communities. These funds continue my mission of making Florida the most military-friendly and veteran-friendly state in the nation.” DeSantis said in a statement.
An amount equal to $122,500 was given to the One Okaloosa Economic Development Council out of the total amount of $2.1 million.
All of the local military sites, missions, and ranges will be supported and protected by the methods that will be implemented with this money.
According to the release, the money will also contribute to the diversification of the economy, which is dependent on the military, by fostering the growth of companies that are based on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
One hundred and fifty thousand dollars was given to the Bay Defense Alliance in Bay County in order to assist in the utilization of volunteer talent and its community partners in order to continue improving existing missions and seek the next generation of defense missions.
In addition, Bay County was given a grant of $220,000 to draft a plan for the development of the Barefoot Palms property, which is located close to the headquarters of the Naval Support Activity Panama City.
