Ron DeSantis, the governor of Florida, reportedly issued a statement on Thursday condemning the indictment of Donald Trump and declared that the state will not aid in the former president’s extradition.
The statement came despite rumors indicating that Trump intends to turn himself in voluntarily to authorities in New York.
DeSantis is widely anticipated to challenge Trump for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024 later this year.
Previously the popular Florida Governor stated that he wouldn’t get involved in any way with Trump’s indictment.
If an extradition case is challenged in Florida, the law gives the governor the authority to step in and help resolve the case.
Yet, as of this moment, Trump’s legal team has suggested that their client is planning on surrendering to the Manhattan DA without incident.
It was highly anticipated that DeSantis would take a harsh stand against the indictment in the wake of criticism from some of Trump’s political allies.
Trump is now involved in multiple ongoing investigations, including one into his handling of secret papers at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida and another in Atlanta.
