OutKick founder Clay Travis is reportedly once again challenging the defending WNBA champion Las Vegas Aces to take on a boys’ high school basketball team, this time dramatically increasing the financial stakes with a $10 million offer.
Travis announced the proposal Monday in a post on X, saying he would personally put up the money for a head-to-head matchup between the reigning WNBA champions and a boys’ high school state championship team selected by him.
“Important announcement: I am upping my offer, $10 million dollars for a head-to-head basketball game between the defending WNBA champion Las Vegas Aces and a boy’s high school state title team of my choice,” Travis wrote. “If the Aces beat my team, I will give them $10 million.”
The sports media personality later expanded on the proposal, outlining how the prize money would be distributed depending on the outcome of the game.
“If the boys win, I will give them $10 million to distribute as they see fit to their team members,” Travis wrote. “Game on pay-per-view with all profits donated to Tunnel 2 Towers to provide mortgage-free homes to families of deceased soldiers, police & first responders.”
According to Travis, the prize would represent “the most money ever paid to win a single basketball game.”
The proposal revives an idea Travis first floated in 2023, when he offered $1 million for the Las Vegas Aces to face a boys’ high school basketball team.
At the time, the Aces had captured back-to-back WNBA championships in 2022 and 2023. Travis argued during an episode of OutKick the Show that a top-tier boys’ high school state championship team would defeat the league’s best squad.
“A good, state championship caliber, high school boys team would smoke the best team in the WNBA,” Travis said during that broadcast.
His comments quickly drew attention across the basketball world and prompted responses from both current and former players.
Aces guard Chelsea Gray responded to the proposal on X with a brief but pointed reaction.
“Dumbass,” Gray wrote.
Former NBA player Patrick Beverley also weighed in during an appearance on an Overtime podcast, pushing back against Travis’ assertion and praising the physical style of play in the WNBA.
“I don’t give a f*ck what he say,” Beverley said.
The veteran guard described his own experience competing against WNBA players in practice situations, saying they play an especially physical brand of basketball.
“They are way more physical than man,” Beverley said. He recalled chasing Aerial Powers through screens while practicing against the Minnesota Lynx, adding that WNBA players “hit you more,” “screen hard,” and “hold their screens.”
Beverley also praised the league’s overall talent level, saying the players possess significant skill and offer basketball fans plenty to appreciate.
“These WNBA girls are skilled,” he said. “As a player you want to watch basketball, that’s first. But you want to actually see, okay, cool like who got bag, who do this, who do that?”
Travis’ latest proposal significantly raises the financial incentive compared to his original 2023 offer, while also tying any pay-per-view proceeds to charitable giving through Tunnel 2 Towers. As of his announcement Monday, the offer called for a winner-take-all contest between the defending WNBA champions and a boys’ high school state title team selected by Travis, with $10 million on the line for whichever side comes out on top.
