Donald Trump Jr. capped off the year with a personal milestone, announcing Monday night that he is engaged after proposing during the White House holiday party in front of family, friends, and invited guests.
The president’s eldest son revealed his engagement to Palm Beach socialite Bettina Anderson during remarks from a podium at the festive gathering. Trump Jr. described the moment as a meaningful and unexpected highlight to close out the year, thanking those in attendance before sharing the news.
“It’s not often that I’m at a loss for words because we usually do the ranting and raving really well, but this is a little different,” Trump Jr. said with a smile. He went on to wish guests an “incredible holiday season,” a “merry Christmas,” and a “very happy new year,” before thanking Anderson for giving him “that one word, ‘yes.’”
Trump Jr. acknowledged the nerves that come with popping the question, joking about the uncertainty of the moment. “You go down there and you’re gonna go and you try to ask, you’re not sure what the answer is going to be,” he said. “It’s a little bit rough. But she said yes, so that’s a big win for the end of the year.”
The engagement marks a new chapter for Trump Jr., coming about a year after he called off his previous engagement to Kimberly Guilfoyle. Guilfoyle has since been named U.S. Ambassador to Greece, a role announced earlier this year.
Anderson, who often spends time with her family at the Trump Organization’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, shared her own excitement at the holiday event. “I get to marry the love of my life and I feel just, like, the luckiest girl in the world,” she said.
According to her LinkedIn profile, Anderson graduated from Columbia University in 2009 with a degree in art history, criticism, and conservation. She and her family are familiar faces at Mar-a-Lago, particularly during holidays and social gatherings.
