On a recent episode of The Stephen A. Smith Show, host Stephen A. Smith reportedly analyzed President Donald Trump’s low approval ratings, arguing that they actually reflect poorly on the Democratic Party.
A poll from ABC News, The Washington Post, and Ipsos indicated that only 39% of respondents approved of Trump’s performance at the 100-day mark of his second term, marking the lowest approval rating in 80 years.
Despite these dismal numbers, Smith highlighted that Trump remains more popular than the Democrats, which he views as an indictment of the party.
“Despite his low approval ratings, he’s still more popular than the Democrats,” Smith stated, emphasizing that the Democratic Party lacks a strong leader capable of resonating nationally.
He criticized the party for not having a prominent figure who can effectively challenge Trump.
Smith pointed to recent Democratic figures, like Senator Cory Booker, who spoke for 25 consecutive hours but failed to capture significant public interest.
He also mentioned Congresswomen Jasmine Crockett and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, noting that while they generate some attention, it doesn’t translate into a viable challenge against Trump.
Furthermore, Smith stressed that simply criticizing Trump will not suffice.
He argued that Democrats need to demonstrate a willingness to engage and work collaboratively, especially since they currently lack control of the White House, the House, and the Senate.
He concluded that without a unifying and compelling leader, Democrats are left powerless, merely “blowing into the wind” without a clear path forward to challenge Trump effectively.
