Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has now reportedly publicly criticized the state House leadership, accusing them of betraying the voters who elected them and pursuing a “swamp-centric agenda.”

This conflict highlights a growing rift within the Republican Party in Florida, where DeSantis asserts that the House leadership is at war with the very constituents who provided them a supermajority.

In a recent post on X, DeSantis stated, “They do not want to see Florida continue on the conservative path,” and expressed concern that the actions of the House leadership could shift Florida back to a swing state.

He remarked, “Republican voters are wondering, what the hell is going on in the Florida House of Representatives?”

DeSantis described the House’s operations as being driven by fear and retribution. In response, Florida House Speaker Daniel Perez pushed back against DeSantis’s claims, arguing that the governor has become what he once vowed to fight against.

Perez highlighted issues of financial mismanagement within the governor’s administration, including unaccounted funds and missing state vehicles.

He insisted that the House remains a stronghold of conservative values, citing their efforts to pass a budget lower than DeSantis’s proposal and to approve larger tax cuts.

Perez accused DeSantis of wanting a compliant legislature rather than one that truly represents conservative principles.

As DeSantis approaches the end of his tenure, he is focused on pushing for a constitutional amendment to reform property taxes. He believes that current tax structures unfairly burden property owners.

Despite the tensions, Perez asserted that the House is ready to work on significant reforms if DeSantis provides a clear plan.

The ongoing dispute reflects broader challenges within the Republican Party as it navigates internal divisions while maintaining control in Florida.
