At the same time that he is arguing that his own party may be unable to win over white male voters, Senator John Fetterman (Democrat of Pennsylvania) is now reportedly condemning his own party of being “toxic” in a new podcast.
During an appearance on the podcast titled “Somebody’s Gotta Win,” the senator stated that Democrats have been speaking down to people, and that they are now experiencing the unintended consequences of this behavior.
Since Trump’s win in November, Fetterman has become a harsh critic of his own party and has signaled that he is open to some of the ideas that the new administration is doing.
At the same time, Fetterman announced on Thursday that he would be voting against two of Trump’s most high-profile Cabinet picks: Tulsi Gabbard as director of national intelligence and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services.
The meeting between Fetterman and Trump at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club in Florida, which took place not long after the election, sparked curiosity about the possible role that Fetterman could play in the government.
Following the conclusion of their meeting, Trump referred to Fetterman as “a fascinating man.”
As the midterm elections of 2026 drew near, Palmeri presented Fetterman with the question of how Democrats might win back white guys “like yourself.”
However, Fetterman appeared to be dubious that there was a Democrat who could accomplish this.
“I’m not sure if that’s possible, to be honest. I think that’s been seriously eroding for a while,” Fetterman remarked.
He then added that in conversations he has had with some voters, many claim that it feels like “men are the problem, men are to blame, or their masculinity is toxic.”
“Once we’ve kind of turned [our] back on that demographic, it’s going to be difficult to rebuild and replace that with those voters. I think that migration has been an ongoing phenomena for several years and that was front and center, you know, in part of the election in ’24.” Fetterman concluded.
