A special legislative session was reportedly called for by the Republican governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, in order to implement President-elect Trump’s immigration agenda within his first one hundred days in office before he takes office.

In addition to this, DeSantis stated that he possesses the right to remove officials from their positions if they are “neglecting their duties.”

“I’m going to call the Legislature into special session starting the week of Jan. 27. We have the next president taking office Jan. 20, we anticipate  executive orders to be issued immediately after the swearing-in and the inaugural address.” DeSantis said during a Monday press conference.

In addition, the governor expressed his desire to secure money for state and municipal officials, especially sheriffs, so that they can carry out their duties of law enforcement.

“We’re going to have some time to process and make sure we’re doing what we need to do, but then we need to act and we need to act quickly,”  he added.

The special session that DeSantis is planning to hold could provide a glimpse into the working relationship that will exist between the governor and the president over the next two years.

The two have had a tumultuous history, beginning as close allies during Trump’s first term but falling out after DeSantis challenged Trump in the Republican presidential primary.

The relationship has been contentious ever since their initial encounter. However, when Trump was elected as the nominee in the previous year, the relationship has been more amicable.

On the first day of his presidency, it is anticipated that President Trump would sign a number of executive orders.

One executive order, according to Stephen Miller, the deputy chief of staff for the president-elect, will essentially “seal the border.”
