Pete Hegseth’s nomination for Defense Secretary is now reportedly in  jeopardy as a result of criticism from some Republicans on claims of misconduct.

President-elect Trump is currently considering his alternatives for secretary of defense.

According to a source, President Trump is also mulling over prospective replacements, one of whom is the Republican governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, who was once Trump’s most formidable political adversary.

The a person who is acquainted with the situation claimed that President Trump has inquired about the possibility of employing DeSantis as Secretary of Defense, and that the governor is “seriously considering” accepting the position.

On Fox Business Network, a senior adviser to Trump named Jason Miller was directly questioned about whether or not the president-elect was contemplating DeSantis as a successor for Hegseth.

“Until we hear it from President Trump, then it’s all just chatter. Here’s the important point, though. It’s going to be President Trump that’s picking the next DOD secretary, not Kamala Harris.” Miller said.

Miller did not rule out the possibility of DeSantis being the new president.

The conversation between Trump and DeSantis took place in person on Tuesday, during an event held in Florida to honor slain law enforcement officers.

However, it is not apparent whether or not the topic of discussion was a position in the government.

Additionally, it is necessary for DeSantis to select a replacement to Senator Marco Rubio (R-Florida), who has been proposed for the position of Secretary of State in the incoming administration of President Trump.

Lara Trump, who is the daughter-in-law of the incoming president, has been mentioned on multiple occasions as a possible candidate to succeed Rubio.

Hegseth, on the other hand, has indicated that he is ready to battle for his nomination.

He has plans to return to Capitol Hill on Wednesday in order to meet with key senators who have the potential to thwart his candidacy, as well as with the Republicans participating in the Republican Study Committee in the House of Representatives.

The meeting could be used to exert pressure on Republican senators to support Hegseth, despite the fact that House lawmakers do not have the opportunity to vote on the nomination of Hegseth.
