Ann Selzer, the esteemed pollster for The Des Moines Register’s Iowa poll, is reportedly preparing to retire after releasing a profoundly inaccurate presidential survey.
A Selzer poll conducted shortly prior to the election caused a national sensation when it revealed that Vice President Harris was ahead of President-elect Trump in Iowa. In reality, Trump secured the state with over 200,000 ballots.
The respected pollster announced in a Sunday column that she was departing the industry, although it is possible that her decision was not due to the Iowa poll’s significant errors.
“Over a year ago I advised the Register I would not renew when my 2024 contract expired with the latest election polls as I transition to other ventures and opportunities,” Selzer announced.
“I am proud of the work I’ve done for the Register, for the Detroit Free Press, for the Indianapolis Star, for Bloomberg News and for other public and private organizations interested in elections,” she added.
She acknowledged that it is “ironic” that the announcement was not made after the polling results were in alignment with the election results, and she would have preferred to do so.
Selzer, who has been employed by the Register on a contract basis since 1997, has indicated that she intends to continue her work for other clients.
