Florida Representative Jared Moskowitz (D) revealed that a local police department alerted him to a “potential plot” against his life just before the election.
He revealed that a suspect was apprehended near his residence, equipped with a rifle, suppressor, and body armor.
Moskowitz, who is Jewish, stated that the individual possessed a manifesto filled with antisemitic remarks and had his name listed as a “target.”
He mentioned in a post on X, that there are “many other details” he cannot reveal due to the ongoing investigation, which police have not revealed any details about.
Moskowitz offered his appreciation for the efforts of local law enforcement, the U.S. Marshals Service, the FBI, the U.S. Capitol Police, and the U.S. attorney’s office.
“As someone who was appointed to the Task Force on the Attempted Assassination of Donald J. Trump, I understand the failures and importance of fixing the protection of our current and future Commander-in-Chief and Vice President,” he penned.
“At the same time, I am deeply worried about Congressional member security and the significant lack thereof when we are in the district. Regardless of our political affiliations or differences, we all have families we want to keep safe,” he the Florida Democrat added.
Moskowitz served as a Parkland city commissioner from 2006 to 2012 before his election to the Florida House of Representatives. During his tenure there, he played a pivotal role in drafting the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Safety Act, addressing gun safety, mental health, and school security improvements.
In 2019, Governor Ron DeSantis named him as the director of the Florida Division of Emergency Management, overseeing the state’s response to COVID-19, and later appointed him to the Broward County Commission’s 8th District seat in 2022.
