Joe Scarborough and the Morning Joe panel contended that the Democratic Party is now the party of football, the party of “the NFL,” rather than the Republican Party.

During his Wednesday speech at the Democratic National Convention, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, a vice presidential candidate and former high school football coach, addressed the audience as his “team” and provided a detailed explanation of the future in football terms.

“So let me finish with this, team. It’s the fourth quarter. It’s the fourth quarter, we’re down a field goal, but we’re on offense and we’ve got the ball. We’re driving down the field, and boy, do we have the right team. Kamala Harris is tough, Kamala Harris is experienced, and Kamala Harris is ready. Our job, for everyone watching, is to get in the trenches and do the blocking and tackling.” Scarborough said.

“It’s the party of football!” Morning Joe guest Pablo Torre said in agreement.

“This is something that I did not think was possible. I come from the world of sports. In my lifetime, I have not ever considered that the Democratic Party would be the party that has the most plausible claim to the largest organism in a culture war — which is football.”
