Democratic strategist David Axelrod has now issued a warning to fellow democrats, stating that a large portion of Democrats’ newfound enthusiasm for Vice President Harris’s campaign is merely “irrational exuberance.”
After taking President Biden’s place at the top of the ticket, Harris’s campaign has gotten off to a fast start, breaking some financial records and decisively reducing the advantage that former President Trump had previously held in a variety of different polls.
“She has a lot of momentum, but if you do look at the polling, this is still a really tight race. This is going to be a hard fight for either side. It’s based on the numbers we’re seeing right now.” Axelrod said.
“Look, I mean, there’s a lot of irrational exuberance … on the Democratic side of the aisle right now, because there was despair for some period of time about what November was gonna look like. Now people feel like there’s a chance.” he continued.
That optimism notwithstanding, Axelrod stated, the odds are still in favor of Trump.
“It’s absolutely Trump’s race to lose right now. He is ahead. And he is ahead in most of the battleground states. They’re close, they can be won by either candidate.” the former Obama advisor concluded.
