Former President Bill Clinton and twice-failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton are allegedly still supporting President Joe Biden, as Democrats urge him to stop his re-election campaign due to concerns that he will not win this autumn.
According to NBC News, they have been quietly “supportive of Biden’s decision to stay in the race and actively encouraging donors to stay with him.”
Those close to the Clintons reported that they were “deferential” about his decision not to drop out.
They have also reportedly contacted the White House, offering assistance in any areas where Biden may require it.
The two have stated that regardless of what others say or think, if Biden does not withdraw, he will be the party’s nominee and confront Trump in November.
In spite of the Clinton’s support, large Democratic megadonors have begun to freeze donations to the party in an attempt to convince Biden to resign by cutting off all of the resources he requires to compete.
This comes in addition to former President Obama and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi both reportedly attempting to push Biden out of the race.
According to the New York Times, Vice President Kamala Harris, who many Democrats want to be the candidate who replaces Biden as nominee, had an emergency call with top donors on Friday, though it is unclear whether her intention was to calm them down or to steer the situation in a different direction to benefit her own political interests.
