On Monday, Representative Lauren Boebert (R-Colorado) presented a bill that would forbid the use of federal monies for Kimberly Cheatle’s expenses or compensation as the director of the Secret Service.
The action is being taken as Congress examines the Secret Service closely following the attempted assassination of former President Trump on Saturday during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Boebert suggested, without providing any supporting information, that the event may have been “intentional” as opposed to the result of “gross incompetence” on the part of the Secret Service while he was outlining the bill.
She also criticized the agency for supposedly prioritizing policies related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Representatives Jeff Duncan (S.C.), Diana Harshbarger (Tenn.), Cory Mills (Fla.), Tim Burchett (Tenn.), Barry Moore (Ala.), Andy Ogles (Tenn.), Josh Brecheen (Okla.), and Rep. Bill Posey (Fla.) are the other eight House Republicans who cosponsored the bill, according to a release from Boebert’s office.
An inquiry regarding Boebert’s statement and her bill was not immediately answered by the Secret Service.
