The voting system manufacturer Smartmatic has reportedly received investment from tech billionaire and prominent Democratic donor Reid Hoffman, in part to support his legal action against Fox News over its coverage of the 2020 election.
Fox News is being sued by Smartmatic for $2.7 billion, claiming that the news outlet damaged the company’s chances of doing business by publishing stories connecting the company’s voting devices to allegations of voter fraud in the 2020 election.
Hoffman, a co-founder of LinkedIn, has contributed millions of dollars to the business, in part to assist it pay for costs related to its continuing legal battle with Fox News.
Additionally, Hoffman contributed an undisclosed sum to assist E. Jean Carroll in covering the costs of her rape and defamation case against former President Donald Trump.
Hoffman has been funding Democratic-aligned and anti-Trump political committees with millions of dollars this election cycle, according to Federal Election Commission data, and these cases are part of a larger pattern of him using his wealth to support the left.
