On Monday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) denied rumors that his wife, Casey DeSantis, intends to run for Govermor at the conclusion of his current term, stating that she has “zero” interest in doing so.

A query was made during a press conference in Coral Gables, Florida, regarding whether the Republican lawmaker had ever overheard his spouse consider the possibility of running for governor in the upcoming November 2026 election.

Due to term limits, Ron DeSantis, who is presently serving out his second term in office, is ineligible to run for reelection.

“If I had to characterize her interest in getting into the political thicket as a candidate, I would say, I would characterize it as zero. I think it’s because she’s had a front-row seat to all the nonsense that goes on when you do it.” DeSantis said.

“Imitation is the most, is the sincerest form of flattery, and people wouldn’t be imitating what she’s been able to do unless it’s been successful, and it has been,” he continued.

However, DeSantis continued to highlight his wife’s accomplishments as first lady, asserting that delegates from other states have traveled to Florida to examine and replicate her work elsewhere in the nation.

As first lady, Casey DeSantis, a former local news journalist, cancer survivor, and mother of three, has led a number of initiatives, including those concerning substance addiction and mental health.

There has been increasing speculation regarding the potential candidacy of Casey DeSantis for governor, given her significant involvement in her husband’s political trajectory, which included his unsuccessful 2024 presidential campaign.

Last month, Florida Atlantic University released a survey indicating that 38% of respondents would choose Casey DeSantis over Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) in a hypothetical rematch.
