Given that the FBI investigation of the president’s son is now in its fifth year, Republican presidential contender Ron DeSantis reportedly said that Hunter Biden “would have been in jail years ago” if he were a Republican.

The Florida governor, who just declared his intention to run for president in 2024, made the remarks during a campaign rally in Iowa when discussing Washington, D.C.’s weaponized bureaucracy.

“We have a bureaucracy that our Founding Fathers would find unrecognizable. It is an unaccountable, weaponized, administrative state that unevenly wields authority depending on its targets.” DeSantis said.

“Two different sets of rules depending on whether you’re a member in good standing of elite society or not. If Hunter were a Republican, he would have been in jail years ago.” he continued.

The federal inquiry into Hunter Biden’s tax affairs was launched in 2018 after claims of suspicious activities involving money from China and other foreign countries were found.

Additionally, it was revealed that the FBI had subpoenaed the laptop that was allegedly Hunter’s during a running money laundering probe.

However, allegations concerning the laptop were roundly criticized by Democrats and mainstream media as being false information from Russia.

At the time, John Ratcliffe, the Director of National Intelligence, said the laptop was not a part of a Russian disinformation campaign, but many other Biden allies attempted to dispute that, claiming without evidence that the laptop was part of a Russian disinformation attack. The latter contention turned out to be verifiably false and the legitimacy of the laptop was later confirmed.
