Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has now reportedly signed a death warrant for Glen Edward Rogers, a 62-year-old man convicted of murdering two women—one in Florida and another in California.
Rogers is scheduled to be executed by lethal injection on May 15 at Florida State Prison, marking the fifth execution warrant signed by DeSantis this year.
Rogers was convicted in 1997 for the murder of Tina Marie Cribbs, who was last seen leaving a Gibsonton, Florida, bar with him in November 1995.
Her body was discovered two days later, stabbed to death in a hotel bathroom.
In addition to his Florida conviction, Rogers received a death sentence in California in 1999 for the murder of Sandra Gallagher, whose charred remains were found in her truck near his apartment after they met at a bar.
Authorities suspect Rogers may be linked to several other homicides across the United States. This year has seen a notable increase in executions in Florida, with three already carried out and another scheduled for May 1.
Among those recently executed is Edward James, who was put to death for the murders of an 8-year-old girl and her grandmother in 1993.
Michael Tanzi was executed earlier this month for kidnapping and murdering a woman in the Florida Keys in 2000. Another inmate, Jeffrey Hutchinson, is set to be executed for killing his girlfriend and her three children.
The recent surge in executions in Florida highlights ongoing discussions about capital punishment and its implementation in the state, as officials continue to navigate legal and ethical considerations surrounding the death penalty.
