Florida Governor Ron DeSantis reportedly publicly criticized congressional Republicans for their lack of progress in supporting former President Donald Trump’s agenda at a roundtable event held at New College of Florida.

DeSantis questioned GOP lawmakers, asking, “What have they done?” in response to their efforts since the start of the current congressional term.

His critique comes on the heels of his recent signing of stringent immigration laws in Florida, aimed at advancing Trump’s mass deportation policies.

DeSantis’s comments signal a potential realignment with Trump, especially as he prepares for a possible 2028 presidential run or seeks to promote the political ambitions of his wife, Casey DeSantis.

During the roundtable, which featured key figures like White House border czar Tom Homan, DeSantis emphasized his 2025 immigration agenda, which includes criminalizing illegal entry into Florida and mandating state cooperation with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

He contrasted his administration’s initiatives with what he described as a lack of initiative among Republicans in Congress, whom he accused of engaging in “political theater” instead of producing substantive results.

DeSantis also reiterated his call for congressional term limits, arguing that these limits would foster accountability and better behavior among lawmakers.

He expressed frustration that Congress is squandering the momentum typically seen during a new administration’s first 100 days, particularly when both the House and Senate are under GOP control.

Tom Homan echoed DeSantis’s sentiments, stating that some Republican senators need to be replaced for failing to support key initiatives.

Despite DeSantis touting his immigration agenda, his policies faced opposition from state lawmakers, indicating an internal party struggle. DeSantis warned that he may take firmer actions against officials who do not support ICE’s mandates.
