After the shocking overthrow of the regime of Syrian leader Bashar Assad, the United States military reportedly took a citizen of the United States who had been missing out of Syria away from the country on Friday.
An official from the Department of Defense stated that Travis Timmerman was flown to Jordan after being transferred to the United States soldiers stationed in Syria on Friday.
According to the person, the United States Central Command, which serves as the military’s headquarters in the Middle East region, is collaborating with the State Department to ensure that Timmerman is able to return home without incident.
Earlier this week, he was released from a prison in Damascus, the capital city of Syria.
This occurred one day after the regime of Bashar al-Assad was overthrown by a coalition of opposition forces.
The last time anyone saw or heard from Timmerman, who was 29 years old, was in Budapest, Hungary, in June. Since then, he has not been seen or heard from.
According to reports, Timmerman asserted that he had been to Lebanon on a Christian pilgrimage and then crossed into Syria.
Once in Syria, he was imprisoned and questioned for many hours before being transferred to an infamous jail known as Palestine Branch.
At the time of his initial appearance this week, Timmerman was mistaken for Austin Tice, an American freelance journalist who has been missing in Syria since 2012.
