The reopening of the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris was attended by President-elect Trump and first lady Jill Biden, who both reportedly sat in the same row during the ceremony.

The cathedral reopened on Saturday following a devastating fire in the spring of 2019, which resulted in the collapse of its spire and timber latticework on its roof.

Trump was seated in the front row of the ceremony, between French President Emmanuel Macron and French first lady Brigitte Macron. Jill Biden was seated along the opposite side of the French first lady, with her daughter, Ashley Biden, to her right.

Brigitte Macron was absent from her seat when Trump and Jill Biden were photographed conversing.

At the ceremony, Macron delivered a speech, and the cathedral bells tolled for the first time in five years, following the fire.

The audience cheered on the firefighters who fought the fire at the cathedral, and the building was illuminated with the word “Merci.”

Trump was greeted by the Macron upon his arrival at the ceremony, which took place shortly after Trump, Macron, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky conducted a meeting at Élysée Palace.

On his way to his seat, Trump exchanged a handshake with Prince William within the cathedral.

The Macrons greeted Jill and Ashley Biden upon their arrival. Macron extended a fond embrace to the first lady after she had initially embraced his wife.

The White House announced on Friday that President Biden was unable to attend the event as a result of a scheduling conflict.

Among the other attendees were former Secretary of State John Kerry and billionaire tech entrepreneur Elon Musk.
