Florida’s Governor aimed for the GOP presidential nod last year but with that path now closed, Ron DeSantis is advising Republicans against using his name as a protest vote amidst discontent over former President Donald Trump.
Speaking to radio host Guy Benson, DeSantis stressed the stakes in the upcoming election are incredibly high.
“I’m not a candidate. You know, I’m voting for Donald Trump because I think that he will reverse Joe Biden’s border policies,” he told the host. “I think he will appoint much better Judges than what Kamala Harris would do.”
DeSantis also believes that Trump will be “much better on national security and national defense,” which are the “clear contrasts between Trump and Harris.”
“I don’t see as a conservative how you can have any common ground with Kamala Harris,” he added.
“She is the most left-wing candidate that the Democrats have run, certainly in my lifetime and maybe their entire time as a party.”
Benson’s query wasn’t just theoretical. An Emerson College Poll showed 8% of the Governor’s supporters might vote for Vice President Harris.
The poll, which was conducted amongst 860 people on October 18 and 20, found that the Florida governor has a 51% approval rate.
93% of his supporters disapprove of President Joe Biden, and only 10% of them plan to vote for Harris.
DeSantis hasn’t ruled out a future run, and tol Benson he might try again in the next presidential election.
“I heard from a lot of people on the ground in these early states that, you know, they thought I was so wonderful, such a great President, but they wanted to give Donald Trump one more shot and they would just support me in ’28,” he noted.
