On Saturday, Governor Ron DeSantis reportedly conducted a news conference in Plant City to address the recovery efforts that are currently underway in Florida as a result of Hurricane Milton.
DeSantis stated that nearly 90% of all stop signals have been repaired, all major highways and bridges have reopened, all airports except the Sarasota-Bradenton Airport have reopened, and 18 closed school districts are scheduled to reopen on Monday.
Nevertheless, DeSantis devoted the majority of the news conference to the state’s endeavors to alleviate the current petroleum shortage.
DeSantis declared that the state will furnish up to 10 gallons of free gas to any resident who requires it from three gas distribution locations located along the western coast of Florida.
DeSantis declared that Sarasota County will establish “at least one” gas distribution site, and that the state is amenable to the possibility of establishing additional sites contingent upon demand.
The Florida Highway Patrol is escorting fuel cargo from the Port of Tampa Bay and Port Canaveral to service stations throughout the region.
DeSantis stated that the state is prepared to provide generators to assist gas stations in pumping the gas that has been delivered.
The state discharged nearly 500,000 gallons of gasoline and 400,000 gallons of diesel directly into the supply chain to service stations prior to Hurricane Milton’s landfall. The opening of gas distribution sites is an additional measure that has also been taken.
