DeSantis Issues State of Emergency Ahead of New Hurricane’s Landfall

In anticipation of hurricane Milton’s arrival, Governor Ron DeSantis has now reportedly issued a state of emergency for certain counties in Florida.

He declared a state of emergency in 51 counties in Florida, including:

Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Brevard, Broward, Charlotte, Citrus, Clay, Collier, Columbia, DeSoto, Dixie, Duval, Flagler, Gilchrist, Glades, Hamilton, Hardee, Hendry, Hernando, Highlands, Hillsborough, Indian River, Lafayette, Lake, Lee, Levy, Madison, Manatee, Marion, Martin, Miami-Dade, Monroe, Nassau, Okeechobee, Orange, Osceola, Palm Beach, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, Putnam, Sarasota, Seminole, St. Johns, St. Lucie, Sumter, Suwanee, Taylor, Union, and Volusia counties.

It is anticipated that Milton will intensify into a significant hurricane prior to its arrival in Florida next week.

Areas that are still experiencing the effects of Hurricane Helene from last month and Hurricane Ian in 2022 are at the highest risk.
