The U.S. Secret Service has confirmed that on Wednesday, it is conducting an investigation into allegations that one of its agents sexually assaulted a female staff member of Vice President Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign.

It was reported that the agent allegedly groped the woman in her hotel room after eating a meal and drinking alcohol with her and several other Harris campaign staffers at a restaurant in Green Bay, Wisconsin, during a visit in the past week to scout out potential campaign stops for the vice president.

Other individuals in attendance appear to have observed the agent’s conduct toward the Harris campaign staffer.

The incident occurs amid the Secret Service’s ongoing scrutiny for the attempted assassination of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump on July 13 at a campaign rally in western Pennsylvania.

A gunman who was able to ascend to a roof overlooking the rally site fired at the former president, resulting in the death of one rally attendee and the injury of two others.

The shooter was ultimately slain by a Secret Service sniper. Trump was struck by a bullet, and two other men were wounded.

The Senate Homeland Security Committee and its Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations released a report on Wednesday that concluded that the Secret Service’s advance personnel roles and responsibilities for Trump’s rally were ambiguous and lacking in accountability.
