A prominent Democratic consultant reportedly contributed $1 million to a fund established by Gov. Ron DeSantis in order to defeat two ballot amendments that were crucial to the Florida Democratic Party: one that sought to legalize marijuana and the other that sought to promote abortion.
The action of Pradeep “Rick” Asnani, president of Cornerstone Solutions, has prompted concern among state party officials and some of the consultant’s clients.
They are apprehensive that their contributions to a committee that Asnani oversees may have been channeled into the governor’s anti-marijuana and anti-abortion initiatives.
In addition to political powerhouses such as the Seminole Tribe and Florida Power & Light, Asnani’s clients include longtime Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw and other Democrats who are actively pursuing state and local office.
The donation to DeSantis’ Florida Freedom Fund was made on July 25, according to campaign reports, by Asnani, the chairperson of Floridians for Economic Leadership.
DeSantis’ fund, which was established by the Republican governor to oppose both the abortion and marijuana amendments on the Nov. 5 ballot, has raised $2.5 million to date. Asnani’s donation is the largest single contribution.
