The United States stated on Monday that Iran and its proxies are likely to attack Israel this week, as fears rise that a large-scale assault is coming.
White House National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby said the attack “could be this week,” confirming rumors that Israel expects an attack within days.
There is concern that Iran could launch a big attack on Israel using rockets, drones, or other weaponry, but it could possibly be limited by cease-fire and hostage-release discussions between the Iranian-backed Hamas militant group in Gaza and Israel.
The USS Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group will replace another strike group, and the Pentagon has sending a guided missile submarine and F-22 fighter fighters.

Washington assisted Israel in defending itself against an Iranian attack in April, during which hundreds of drones and rockets were launched from Iran.
The missiles and drones were primarily shot down by the United States, Israel, and regional Arab allies.
Iran has vowed vengeance for what it claims was an Israeli assassination of a prominent Hamas leader, Ismail Haniyeh, two weeks ago in Tehran.
Israel has so not confirmed or denied that it was behind the attack.
