Ron DeSantis, the governor of Florida and a former competitor of former President Donald Trump, has suddenly been added to the speaker lineup for the Republican National Convention, which takes place next week.

Originally, DeSantis had been assigned no position in the lineup.

Which night of the convention DeSantis would speak was not confirmed by the source.

According to a close source of DeSantis, they were never informed that they would not be giving a speech at the convention.

Over the past few years, there have been significant ups and downs in the relationship between Trump, who has complete control over RNC programming, and DeSantis.

DeSantis won the governorship of Florida in 2018, and then again in 2022. During the 2024 Republican primary—a contest that DeSantis withdrew from in January due to a dismal performance in the Iowa caucuses—the two engaged in months-long attacks against one another.

Since then, DeSantis has promised to use his network of donors to help collect money for Trump’s campaign.

Former governor of South Carolina Nikki Haley, the last Republican to withdraw from the GOP primary, is still not scheduled to appear at the event.
