The severe storms that hit the area on Thursday night prompted the declaration of a state of emergency in twelve counties in northern Florida.
Citing the substantial damage to the state’s infrastructure caused by severe winds and possibly tornadoes, Gov. Ron DeSantis issued the order on Friday.
According to DeSantis’s office, thousands of Floridians in the north lost electricity last night and are still coping with the devastation from the storm’s rain, winds, and fallen trees.

In order to assist with the cleanup and rehabilitation in those counties, the federal government and state agencies will be able to work together more closely according to the directive.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s National Disaster Recovery Framework must be implemented by state authorities.
