Mike Pence, the vice president of Donald J. Trump, made it clear on Friday that he would not align himself with the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, unlike some of Trump’s former rivals such as Ron DeSantis, Vivek Ramaswamy, and Tim Scott.
When questioned about endorsing Mr. Trump after he secured the party’s nomination, Mr. Pence stated on Fox News that he could not, in good conscience, offer his support.
The former vice president refused to disclose his voting preference for the upcoming November election.
In a statement later on Friday, Mr. Pence expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to work alongside Mr. Trump.

He also reiterated some of the concerns he had previously shared during his interview on Fox News.
During his brief tenure as a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, Mr. Pence faced challenges in winning over voters who maintained strong loyalty to Mr. Trump.
He consistently criticized Mr. Trump for his actions during the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol, while also attempting to claim credit for the accomplishments of the previous administration in areas such as the economy and judicial appointments.
Mr. Pence faced backlash from Mr. Trump and a group of his followers after he declined to fulfill Mr. Trump’s request to obstruct the certification of the 2020 election results.
