Although DeSantis endorsed former President Trump, his statements since withdrawing from the Republican presidential campaign on Sunday indicate that their intense rivalry continues.
In addition, DeSantis publicly threatened to veto a Republican proposal that would have authorized the use of Florida tax dollars to pay Trump’s legal fees, a day after he withdrew from the election.
The governor of Florida asserted that the corporate media has shifted from praising Trump as a juggernaut who will defeat President Biden to warning of the former president’s vulnerabilities, months after having previously done so.
“I think that was part of the reason the turnout was low [in Iowa], because people had been told it’s a fait accompli. Trump’s up so much in the polls, he’s got the nomination.” DeSantis said during an interview with Steve Deace.
“It’s a huge warning sign for Republicans nationally, based on what we saw in Iowa,” he added.
“So he’s got to figure out a way to solve that. I think there’s an enthusiasm problem overall.” DeSantis concluded.
When asked whether he was planning on running again in 2028, DeSantis responded: “We’ll see what kind — if we have a country left by 2028.”
