In a fiery appearance on Steve Bannon’s War Room program Thursday, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) reportedly issued a dire warning about the Genius Act, the Republican-led cryptocurrency regulation bill backed by President Donald Trump.
Greene, who has often stood alone in the House on controversial votes, said the bill would “end freedom altogether” by laying the foundation for government control over Americans’ money through a central bank digital currency (CBDC).
“Let me explain something,” Greene said, pointing to historical precedent. “In 1971, we went off of the gold standard… The buying power is less than 10 cents now from where it was in the 1950s.”
Drawing a straight line from that decision to today’s economic instability, Greene argued the Genius Act is the next step in an ongoing erosion of financial sovereignty.
According to Greene, the legislation—framed as a necessary framework for regulating stablecoins and the crypto industry—is far more sinister than it appears. “What is being voted on today in Congress is the entire setup, groundwork, and entire infrastructure being laid to move from cash to digital currency,” she said. And more alarmingly, “The number one thing that is not happening today is a ban on a central bank digital currency.”
This omission, she contends, paves the way for unprecedented government power: “This means the ability for the government to take control of your digital bank account… and turn it off.”
I am NOT voting for the mark of the beast system.
Totally happy and content being 1000% NO. https://t.co/uHPnjEQcDD

Greene stood alone in opposition Wednesday night as the House moved the bill forward. “I was the only no vote on the rule last night,” she said, referencing a historic procedural standoff.
“This was the longest vote held open for a rule in history… because there was a deal made, and the deal will not be honored.”
The deal in question was a promise from House Speaker Mike Johnson to include a ban on a CBDC in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA)—a promise Greene said will be nullified by the Senate. “What they told us all week long is the Senate does not have the votes to pass a ban,” she warned.
The congresswoman also connected the bill to broader concerns about government intrusion. “You never thought in your lifetime that the government would shut you down, would close your churches, would close your schools, would close your business,” Greene said, invoking the COVID-era lockdowns.
“But what is happening today is the groundwork is being laid… to switch us from cash to a cashless society… that can be controlled by the government.”
Trump has expressed his eagerness to sign the Genius Act, but Greene is not backing down. “I don’t know if there will be any other no votes on the Republican side,” she said, “but I’m voting no… because I’m a Christian and I’ve read the Bible.”
On X, Greene made her stance even clearer: “I am NOT voting for the mark of the beast system. Totally happy and content being 1000% NO.” She added, “You won’t control your money. The government will. This would end freedom altogether.”
