Representative Max Miller, a Republican from Ohio, has now reportedly publicly condemned an incident in which he alleges he was run off the road by a pro-Palestinian activist.
The congressman, who is one of the few Jewish Republicans in the House, shared his experience on social media, describing an encounter that he characterized as both threatening and indicative of rising political violence in the United States.
In a video posted on Thursday, Miller recounted his drive through Rocky River when a young man aggressively honked his horn and forced him off the road while displaying a Palestinian flag.
According to Miller, the individual shouted threats against him, his family, and Israel, expressing a desire for violence. “The deranged hatred in this country has gotten out of control,” Miller asserted, emphasizing the need for accountability.
Miller, a former aide to Donald Trump, filed a police report with both local authorities and Capitol Police.
He expressed confidence that law enforcement would identify the individual responsible for the incident. “We know exactly who you are,” he stated, vowing to continue his fight against anti-Semitism and other forms of hate. “Hate has no home here in Ohio’s 7th District,” he added.
The incident comes in the wake of heightened tensions surrounding Middle Eastern politics, particularly the ongoing conflict between Israel and various Palestinian groups.
Miller’s remarks reflect a broader concern among lawmakers regarding their safety amid a rise in politically motivated violence.
Just days prior, two Minnesota state lawmakers were targeted in a shooting that resulted in the death of one lawmaker and her husband.
Miller’s call for a measured response to political disagreements resonated during his address. “If you have an issue with a legislator, the appropriate thing to do is to reach out to them for a meeting,” he stated, underscoring that aggressive confrontation is never acceptable.
As tensions continue to simmer over political and social issues, Miller’s experience serves as a stark reminder of the potential consequences of violent rhetoric and actions in a deeply polarized environment.
